One False Move review !!
The film One False Move is a story of three criminals Pluto, Ray, and Fantasia who are criminals that commit six brutal murders over the course of one night in Los Angeles. The motives behind these murders are linked to finding cocaine and making money off of it as well. Many different actions throughout this film help support this title and I would like to share my opinion. When we talk about One False Move, many actions such as killings done by the criminals, the relationship between Fantasia and Dixon, and the krama seen at the end of the film all support that title.
First, with the murders supporting the idea of one false move. There are always choices in life and even in the opening scene where we see Ray, Pluto storm in after Fantasia has catched up with her old friends and acts as a distraction to ultimately rob them. They kill all the people there after asking and robbing them from what they have. Later on they go to another house where they are looking for the drugs and money as well and end up killing them as well. This displays the desire for greed and how it can lead you to making false moves that will impact your life ultimately in a negative way. Fantasia displayed a sense of regret compared to the other criminals Ray and Pluto. This regret was seen as she would ask Ray to stop beating one of her friends in the beginning as he kept asking her for a confession. Also, when the son of the couple they just killed was upstairs and she lied to Ray and said he didn't see him. Fantasia's character was a prime example of the choices one makes getting caught up in the wrong crowd and making moves that are contrary to what you believe. Also, when they were in Houston she ended up shooting that police officer and was in initial shock of doing it. She regretted that decision, but it was a choice that she made at that moment which was a bad move. Killing others in general is not a light crime, but a cop at that is even more detrimental to one's record.
Moving on to the history behind Fantasia and Officer Dixon relationship. This is another area in the film where moves and decisions were made that had an impact on both individuals. At first, we as the audience didn't know about the connection that they had and past dealing between one another. All we knew was that Officer Dixion knew who Fantasia was and didn't believe that she would be guilty of killing anybody. As the film went on, discovering that Officer Dixion got Fantasia pregnant from sleeping with her when she was a minor. This was another move that had major consequences and affected both characters in the film. Officer Dixion was affected by this “one false move” by him not having to cover up this crime of having sex with a minor and not being able to tell his partners working on solving the crime with him more about his connection to Fantasia. This move also affected Fantasia because she ended up becoming a single mother with a son that had no connection to his father because of her trying to keep a secret who the father was in fear of the backlash. Overall in this film, we see that all of these actions come with consequences to them, and someone has to own up to them. Karma is being met up with each individual character as they choose these certain moves that they take.
Lastly, I want to touch on the ending of the film and just how that initially shocked me. I'm so used to seeing the heroes save the day usually in films and the bad guys get locked up by the good guys. When all the criminals including Officer Dixion end up dying at the end it was an interesting choice as I think about it by the director of the film. Although I was surprised, I did like the choice of the ending because it showed how all of these choices can lead you into certain outcomes that aren't always leading to glamorous and happy ending.
